Happy New Year! 2017 is here and I’m excited for a new year and a new calendar. Something about a clean slate and new planners gets me giddy! But let’s rewind and have a little wrap-up of our Christmas break, shall we?
Our break started off with a few days at home once Matt was off work. We were able to enjoy our Christmas tree, decorations, and some cookie making. Then it was off to a week at my parent’s house!
Driving in our car looks a little different these days- we have two car seats in the back and I’m squeezed between the two boys. It works well right now because Benji can eat a bottle in his seat while I’m back there and I can easily entertain and talk with Jude. Otherwise my neck would be twisted all the way around from the passenger seat most of the trip.
But once we got to Northern Ohio snow was already on the ground, my parents were excited to see the boys, and the boys were ready to play and get some love from their Baba and Grandpa. We jumped into the snow right away and Jude loved it! He saw some snow last winter, but he is much more interested this year.
Our family is getting pretty serious about our cookie decorating contest. It started out as just a friendly time to sit down around the table and talk and decorate. Now it’s a cut-throat competition with piping bags and colored icing and toothpick-made details. We send pictures of the cookies to Matt’s side of the family and they choose winners without knowing who made what cookie. It’s quite the process.
Presents were in abundance for Jude this year. He actually understood the presents a little better and the idea of Santa, even though I’m sure he was a tad confused since he kept saying “Happy Birthday!” when he would hand out presents. We’ll get there eventually.
It was such a relaxing time together, and it was so nice to have help with the boys all week! Matt and I went out to a movie with my siblings, I did some kid-free shopping, and I got some one-on-one time with Jude and one-on-one time with Benji. It makes a world of difference to have several extra sets of hands!
What a Merry Christmas we had. It made me realize how lucky I’ve got it when it comes to the family department. I hope you all had a great break too, and are ready to tackle 2017!
