Jude has this thing now where he loves to sit on the kitchen counter and help with whatever I am cooking. So unless I want to make something while he is napping, he will be involved with whatever I am stirring, measuring, and mixing.
I killed two birds with one stone one day and made a quick snack for a Christmas party and was easy enough to involve Jude. And he did way better than I expected! Chocolate Pretzels are one of the easiest and quickest treats I’ve put together!
Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. Start by placing parchment paper on a cookie sheet and spread out the pretzel twists in one layer. Jude was a good helper during this step, letting me know where we were missing pretzels on the sheet.
Unwrap all the Hershey kisses and start placing one on each pretzel. This was a great job for toddler hands! He didn’t even eat one! I was impressed. He loved opening each on and finding an empty pretzel to put his kiss on top of.
As soon as you pull the pretzels out of the oven, top with one M&M. I didn’t let Jude help with this step. I felt like the chocolate and cookie sheet could burn him, but also that we would have a major mess on our hands. So instead he was allowed to eat one green M&M and one red. That kept him entertained while I pressed the M&Ms into the kisses.
My favorite thing about these is they are just specific for Christmas! You can use multi-colored M&Ms, pastels, Halloween — whatever M&Ms out they have for the season you can pop on there for a festive treat. And if you get sick of using Hershey kisses, you can change that out for a Rolo or mini Reese cup. The possibilities are endless!
