And I’m back- after a week of being unplugged and enjoying time with family, it’s great to be blogging again! I really wanted to focus on time away from home, surrounded by family and kids and food and activity and not always be checking my instagram or blogging. I was present and aware and it was so relaxing to just let it all go for almost a whole week.
But I did take pictures! Probably too many, so now I will have to go back through and delete the 14 different poses of Jude & Benji with their cousins, and the 5 selfie shots my two-year-old took of himself that are blurry and too close, along with the family hiking snapshots I took and didn’t realize my finger was over the lens. Sound familiar? Oh good, I’m not the only one.
We went to Tennessee for Benji’s first Thanksgiving to spend with Matt’s family and it was a lot of fun. His brother just moved there and bought a beautiful house with his wife and we were all able to sleep under one roof and enjoy a lot of time together, outdoors, eating, and being. We left the Tuesday before Thanksgiving right after Matt was out of school, and drove the three and a half hours to Clarksville, TN!
Pies are a big thing with Matt’s family. I guess that’s pretty typical, but my family normally does cheesecake on Thanksgiving, so having a wide variety of pies is a fun tradition to be a part of! I had to learn to bake a pie to keep up with them!
Saturday was a full day, hiking in the morning, packing up, and driving home after Jude’s afternoon nap. We arrived home around 9:30pm and was able to transfer Jude to his bed and get Benji settled pretty quickly.
Sunday was a day to get things done! Matt worked sound at church, then we regrouped at home, went out to buy a Christmas tree, decorate it, food shop, rearrange the house a bit, clean, and prep for the week ahead. Whew. Good thing we had one entire day to get back into the swing of things at home!
After the crazy day, filled with some tantrums and stressful moments, we ended with a joyful one. Jude had just taken a bath, he was in his Christmas PJs, and he pulled chairs over for Benji and Matt and himself. And he said he wanted to watch the tree together. Melt. My. Heart.
What a great reminder to just sit and enjoy the moments, as these next three weeks will fly by and Christmas will be here before we know it.
