Last Saturday it was all about Saturday Style. But this Saturday it’s more about being real and talking about the aftermath of vacation with kids!
So many people said vacation with kids is not much of a vacation. But I think it’s more the vacation is amazing, but the day after you get home is hard! Jude was a little out of wack. Traveling is hard even on adults, so I’m sure he was feeling it too.
The problem was I wasn’t prepared for it.
He had a few tantrums, he was tired all day and didn’t have great naps. He wasn’t eating well, and was out of sorts. But honestly, I felt the same way! I wish I could have had a few tantrums, I had a headache, and I didn’t sleep well either!
I needed to have extra patience and extra love for him, because it was a jarring transition for him too!
So now I know, to prep my heart and mind for more patience and an extra does of smiles, snuggles, and love for my little man.
And honestly, that advice would probably do me some good toward my hubby too! He jumped right back to work the next day- over a 12 hour day! So we all needed a little slack.
I’ve decided to put together a list of things that I can look back on for after our next vacation or weekend trip to remind myself how to prepare!
Have a Meal Ready
Put a freezer meal in the freezer before the vacation! It can be store-bought pot pies or a homemade dish, prep it early so you know when you get home you have at least something to eat!
I didn’t have coffee the day after we got back. Bad move on my part. So just use whatever helps you- coffee, ice cream, soda, french fries. All of the above. One day won’t hurt to help ease you back into reality.
Be Patient With Yourself
You need to be patient with your kids, but with yourself too! Are there piles of laundry and food shopping to be done? That’s OK. You’ll get to it. Haven’t swept the floor after the crazy lunch episode? Don’t worry. It will still be there later today… unfortunately.
