Winter activities for kids is always a challenge, amiright? Jude loves being outside, kicking a ball, going on walks, playing with his water table, etc. But when it’s freezing we are limited in our outdoor playtime. Why don’t I live in Florida?
But we have one more fun activity for indoor play! Sponge painting! It was easy to pull together the materials from things I had around the house. So even if you are stuck inside, you can make this activity happen with little or no cost!
Gather Your Supplies
Empty toilet paper rolls (or paper towel roll, divided)
Washable, kid-friendly paint
Hot glue gun
Make Your Shapes
I used scissors and cut a few different shapes out of two clean sponges. I planned a little but before actually cutting them up. I knew I could make a rectangle and two triangles out of one. And the other was cut into a circle and a square. It worked perfectly and didn’t waste much sponge.
Glue on the Handles
Warm up that glue gun and add the empty toilet paper rolls to the sponges to use as handles. It’s an inexpensive way to add handles to the sponges. This helped in making it easier for the kids to hold and a little bit less messy!
Set out the Paint!
I squeezed a little bit of each color onto a separate small, paper plate. Little hands could easily dip the sponges into the puddle of paint and start stamping shapes onto their paper! It worked wonderfully.
Let the Kids be Creative!
Let them go for it! We used washable, non-toxic finger paint (also used in this craft) so nobody was really worried about getting paint on clothes. Some of the smaller kids just went ahead and finger painted! We also had foam pieces with sticky backs for them to use as extra decoration.
And that was it! We had extra wipes on hand to help with clean-up. And since the paper towels and sponges are so cheap, it was easy to toss them in the trash once everyone was finished with their master pieces!
It’s Tuesday and that means Tuesday Talk! If you are a blogger, please link up and share what you have been doing lately, a craft, or anything else you’d like to share! And don’t forget to visit some of the hosts and other blogs that have linked up. We love connecting with you!
