Guys, this is way overdue. Like, maybe two years overdue…. which is when I started this blog, so there’s that.
Before and after pictures and home tour! Gear up for some U-G-L-Y photos because this house needed some help. Still does, but that’s the fun of it. I was thinking over the next few weeks I would share our house and what we have done so far. Then I will corral them all together and add updates as we do them. Let’s start with the outside, shall we?
The front of the house was not very inviting or colorful. It had a crazy wreath on the door and the shutters were painted a boring brown.
Painting the shutters and front door was one of the first projects we tackled. I wanted to drive up to our home and it be cheery and happy. The brown was just not doing it for me. So a deep purple and pale yellow was just the ticket. And not to mention, updating that wreath the owners left behind for us.
I was so excited to get some mums from my mom to put on the front stoop! It made the front steps look so cheery.
And then there is the back. Oh man, was it crazy wild in the back. About half of our backyard was covered with honeysuckle, vines, weeds, and who knows what else. It took us a while to get it all removed, but we finally did. Check out some of our progress here. Here is what it looked like right when we moved in.
Oh that? Yes, that’s a blue-handled mop left in the flowerbed for us. Gee, thanks for the house warming gift.
So after a little backyard clean-up, it’s starting to look a lot better. And now with our neighbors dividing a lot of their plants, we are getting a much-needed facelift with hastas, and some other flowers… I’m not really sure what they have divided and planted, but it looks good! So I’m happy!
Wow. So glad those honeysuckle bushes are gone! Look how much better it is over there by the fence! Well, first of all you can actually see the fence. That’s an improvement.
The before picture below is after we did the majority of the removal of bushes and honeysuckle. That’s where the dirt is left behind and we started growing grass.
We had to re-do a few bricks from the flower bed, whack away at the honeysuckle, grind stumps, and plant grass. Other than that, we really haven’t done much. I think we are just so happy that we have more space back there, we haven’t really dove into more backyard projects. But there’s a list. Matt’s working on some plans to finish up our fence! We just need to connect the side fence that is already there to our house, so not much. I’ll keep you posted.
And that’s the outside of our house! Next week, I’ll let you see our living room and how it looked when we moved in. Yikes.
