Normally I check my email while Jude is napping. I opened our laptop, and went to my inbox, searching for a new email I was hoping would come. And it did! There it was! The email I had been waiting for! Or at least, I thought it was what I was waiting for.
Recently there was a big opportunity for me and this little blog of mine to really take a step forward. I was excited. I started planning. I had ideas and thoughts and hopes. But then I was passed by. Instead of an email that said, “Yes! We want you!” It was more along the lines of, “We are going in another direction”.
Before I had too much time to process the news, Jude woke up. I shut the laptop, was greeted by a smiling little face, and we played. His new favorite toy is this fuzzy, little Elmo with big hands. As Jude sat in my lap, I pretended Elmo was walking up to him and tickling him with his over-sized, rubber hands. For some reason, this was the funniest thing that had ever happened to Jude. We played this tickle game for about 10 minutes and it was the hardest I have ever heard him laugh.
My word of the year jumped into my mind. Grateful for a son whose laughter can brighten my day. He found joy just sitting in my lap playing with this crazy red stuffed animal, Elmo. We had so much fun together. We both laughed, looked at each other, and then continued tickling and giggling.
So keep on going, bloggers! If you’re looking for opportunities, keep looking. Not every opportunity will turn into success for your blog. If you’re hoping that twenty more people read your blog today than they did yesterday- keep that goal! And even if it’s only your mom reading right now, that’s OK! It will at least keep her in the loop of what is going on in your life, right? Write because it’s your creative outlet, your way of documenting life, or a way to inspire others. Let that be your motivation for writing.
