My sweet, sweet sister-in-law, Taura, made two canvases for the nursery before Jude was even born. She knew we were doing a nautical theme in navy and white, and when I got these in the mail, I’m pretty sure I teared up.
She’s talented, right? So the white one on the right has an anchor at the bottom, and she told me that once Jude was born I was to put his little feet prints to finish the bottom of the anchor. ADORABLE. I loved this idea. Fast-forward 5 months, and I finally put his prints on the canvas! And it really only took about 5 minutes.
I rolled his little pant legs up, put down a water-proof mat under his legs, and painted his little feet blue! It was fun! He had a little toy in his hands and just jabbered away while we painted.
We practiced the first footprint on some cardstock to see how much pressure to put on his foot when pressing against the page and how much paint to use. The practice prints were pretty easy, so I was feeling pretty good. The first footprint on the canvas came out well too, so then I was like, “I got this! No biggie!”
And then came the left side. Whoops. I didn’t practice again, thinking this DIY was a breeze…. I should have remembered that Jude loves to kick. His little foot did a kick while we were trying to press it against the canvas, and now we have a little blurry footprint. But that’s no problem. Whatev. I still love it.
