The first seven days of my de-clutter challenge was all about surface areas. Taking care of the stuff that accumulates in every area of my home, from the kitchen to the living room to the bedrooms. What I have discovered is my surface areas need constant attention! Especially in my living room.
This is what happens when you have a baby. Your organization and putting-away abilities that you thought were a super power suddenly leave your body and everything is a mess! But a beautiful baby-mess. Either way, it made me crazy. So tackling the surfaces areas first was a wonderful help for me! It suddenly made me feel more calm and put-together by having what the eye can see immediately cleared and clean.
I know, that sounds super dramatic and untrue, but it is true for me. This end table is a perfect example. It is sandwiched between our sofa and love seat and is such a convenient surface. Maybe a little too convenient, because as you can see the surface gets dumped on by pretty much everything- mail, receipts, baby books, cups.
Once the papers and mail were put in their proper places, and the books were stacked and ready to read for the next time, the end table was looking snazzier already.
It’s a little bland, but I need it to be! Having clear surface areas allows there to be space. A much-needed pause in a well-lived-in living room! More updates to come. This week we are tackling the KITCHEN! Let’s go!
