This morning has been peaceful. It’s been a rainy Sunday morning, with the ever-present pitter-patter of rain on the windows and roof. The sound is calming and somehow reassuring, even though I am an avid lover of the sunshine. Weather like this encourages curling up with a book, drinking some coffee, and taking it slow.
And that got me to thinking. I have read a lot of great books this summer. With beach vacation and lazy days by the pool, I needed some books I could easily pick up and start reading between naps and people-watching. So I thought I would share some of the most recent books I have been getting into.
This book took me by surprise. It’s about a young man who lost his job and starts working night shift at a small bookstore just to pay the bills. His job here changes his life. It’s filled with mystery and kept me guessing every step of the way. It takes a few unexpected turns I had NO IDEA were coming, which always keeps me happy when reading a book.
I wouldn’t say this book is filled with happy feel-good stories, but it does share an unlikely friendship between two young men in Russia during the Nazis’s siege on Leningrad. I am no history buff, but I was still able to follow along and learn about some history along the way. It was interesting and I enjoyed the story very much!
Mystery books are what I gravitate towards. For example, I have read every Sue Grafton mystery book she has written (24 in total). The main character in her series is female and just rocks out. The Mark of the Lion is a much different type of mystery book, but the main female character is also rockin’. Her name is Jade and she continues on with her quest as she unravels a very intriguing story of her almost-fiance’s family no matter what is trying to stop her. It has great turns and twists and was a great read!
So, there are my most recent three books I have been lazily reading over the summer, pool-side and beach-side. Now that school is starting up in a few days, and this baby of ours is due in about 2 weeks (or any day really!) I have a feeling my reading will come to an abrupt halt. But that’s alright- I am sure there will be plenty of other things keeping me busy!
