This weekend I was on my own. Matt had a guys weekend somewhere in Tennessee (I think) mountain biking, hiking, camping, grunting- you know, the normal guy stuff. So naturally I made a long to-do list to get some stuff done all on my own. I did have a girls night on Friday night to kick the weekend off right, which was super fun. Girl talk, pizza, ice cream, brownies, junk food, laughs, and giggles- just like in Jr. High school. It was great.
I have heard once you past your first trimester your energy comes back and you start the “nesting mode”. I didn’t think that this was a real thing, but let me tell you, I think I caught the bug. My to-do list quickly turned into a beast of it’s own. Cleaning out and organizing my linen closet turned into painting the master bathroom, removing a cabinet, spackling the holes, purchasing organizing shelves and a new shelf. Seriously. I had to do all this just to make sure the linen closet could be re-organized and more room would be available in our master bathroom to hold medicines. Now Baby O has a whole shelf in the linen closet for baby sheets and blankets and things. (I am still not totally sure what I will be putting in there, but I am sure there will be some sort of baby thing I need to organize.)
The before. One large cabinet and then one smaller cabinet below it. Not bad, since we have good storage space, but it isn’t the most pleasant looking space.
A look on the insides. It’s a tough space to organize! I was ready for a change. And for all our medicine and toiletries to be in the same spot, instead of half in our bathroom and the other half in the linen closet.
I woke up on Saturday morning ready to organize the linen closet. And within 10 minutes it turned into me pulling out the tool box and unscrewing the bottom cabinet off the wall!
I couldn’t spackle and not paint the whole bathroom. So while I was out and about getting different supplies for projects, I added tannish paint to the list and some wire shelves to get this project moving along.
I know the color looks almost exactly the same, but it is a tad different. The new tan color is a little lighter than what was on the walls before. And now it looks more fresh and modern. Somehow. Magic paint, is what it is.
My sister was over on Saturday and she helped me get the new shelf up. The directions said the installation would only take 15 minutes. We could have totally put it up under 15 minutes, but we laughed too much in between steps so it took us a bit longer. And the instructions that came with the shelf were explaining how to install a different kind of shelf. No biggie. Who needs directions anyway? We are smart gals and drilled away (after we measured twice, don’t worry dad).
Once the shelf was up, I pulled everything out of the linen closet that I wanted to move into the master bath. I was using two baskets in the closet, so I just moved them over (after reorganizing the baskets, of course) and figured out where I wanted to put everything. The more frequently used items I put on the bottom, and the extra shampoos, lotions, and things I put at the top.
AND- my favorite addition is the knob. I couldn’t stop myself from taking a quick trip into Hobby Lobby to check out all the different knobs they had. IT WAS SO HARD TO PICK ONE OUT. I wish I had more cabinets with knobs just so I could pick out new fancy, crazy knobs.
So there you have it. Matt is on his way home now, and he has no idea I painted and ripped something from the wall and added a shelf. SURPRISE. This is what happens when you leave your preggo wife who is in the nesting stage at home by herself. You just never know.
