The hunt began for a kitchen towel a few weeks ago- one that matched the new colors of our kitchen. It was harder than I thought it would be. Yellow, gray, coral, and berry are all pretty popular colors right now and thought for sure there would be some at Target that were cute. Nope. Steinmart- nope. Home Goods, not there either. I even tried walmart and they didn’t have any I liked. So when I found a dish-drying mat that had the colors I wanted, I snatched it up and went to work.
I bought the FOUR DOLLAR dish mat (a steal, I know) and got out my scissors. I figure, how bad can I make it? I started cutting off the edges of the mat so the foam middle part could be taken out and I would be left with two pieces of fabric. One piece gray and one piece patterned of the perfect color combination that I ever did see.
Then the pieces were laid out flat and cut to make one big towel. The two gray pieces line the top and the bottom of the towel, and the patterned piece is in the middle. Dimensions: Gray pieces- h4″ x w16″ Patterned Piece- h15″ x w16″
And then my friends, you just hang it up.
And of course, as all shopping-for-something-super-specific goes, Matt and I went to Bed Bath & Beyond and found some cute ones. So now we have a few more that work pretty well. So now our home-made towel has a friend to hang out with. (Get it?! HANG out with?) Win-win.
