No, I’m not talking about bump-its for your hair. Not that kind of poof. But the kind of poof that will make your decoration anxieties disappear. These decorative poofs are easy, cheap, and make a big impact.
Here’s what you need to get started.
1) Tissue Paper
That’s it! First, lay your tissue paper out flat and count 8-10 sheets. Start folding accordion style, back and forth, back and forth. Then tie your ribbon or twine around the center of your folded sheets. Make sure your ribbon is long enough to hang at the desired length at the end of the project.
Once you tie your ribbon around the center, you will want to cut the corners of the tissue paper. This just makes it look a little more “flowery” when it is all poofed out. If you don’t cut the corners, you will end up with a wavy look.
Now comes the fun part- start separating and fluffing the tissue paper. Start on one end of the ribbon and carefully pull apart each sheet. Once one side is poofed out, turn it around and poof out the other side. Be sure to fill in the gaps where the ribbon is tied to the tissue paper.
If you want to make different sized poofs like I did, just cut your tissue paper before you start accordion folding. We tried a few different styles and sizes which just adds a little more interest and variety to a simple project. No go hang those cute things! I hung mine for the baby shower I hosted a few weeks ago. I let the mom-to-be take them home to help decorate her nursery. Double-duty. These things are great and add good color to whatever you are trying to lighten up. Just think what a ton of white poofs would look like at an outdoor, rustic wedding in a barn? Or hung in a kids room from the ceiling? So many options. Get poofing.
