Welp, vacation is over. We had a total of three weeks of bumming around in Maine and then straight to laying around at the pool and beach. And as Napolean Dynamite would say, “Lucky!”. At the beach we would go and get ice cream at night, ride bikes “downtown” to the mini-mall (that is it’s official name, so you can just imagine how ‘mini’ it is!) , play games, and take naps. We got home late last night and we are back to the real world: painting the wall behind the fridge (I forgot to when we painted the kitchen), laundry, cleaning, unpacking, and tackling our backyard.
Before we get into the “real world” stuff, let’s recap how fun vacation was.
I could have added more ice cream photos- we went to the ice cream parlor a lot…. but that’s what vacation is for! Now that we are back home, we started to get to work. Remember my super-sweet, thoughtful neighbors? Well, while we were out of town, they mowed the lawn, sprayed weed killer, power-washed our patio, took our trash to the curb, and pulled weeds. Where did they come from?! Maybe they need to write a book, How to be the BEST Neighbors EVER.
After dinner, Matt and I went outside and started chopping and bundling all the logs, twigs, and sticks that make up the back of our yard. Not ten minutes into the endeavor, our neighbor came over to see how our vacation went. Then he offered a longer extension cord for the chainsaw Matt was using. And before we knew it, he had brought over wire cutters, shovels, hammers, and a small saw to help chop up all the stumps. He started working as if it was his own yard, working quickly and efficiently. He apparently had experience in taming wild weeds and vines! After a few hours, we made a dent in the forest and felt very accomplished. We worked until the fireflies came out and took that as our sign to quit for the night, drinking lemonade and watching the bugs glitter on and off all throughout the yard. I guess real life really isn’t worse than vacation, just a little different pace.
