Good morning Day 1 of our 6th year of marriage! That’s right- yesterday was our 5 year wedding anniversary. Can you believe it?! This marriage stuff is a blast: 3 apartments, 1 puppy, 6 different jobs, 100 fights about silly little things, 100 make-ups, 1,000’s of belly laughs, 2 fights about organization, 3,243 hand-washed dishes, 1 trip to Cancun, 1,673 geocaches, 2,142 hikes, and 5 years. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I thought I had a perfect gift for my husband of 5 years- planned out dates for each month in our 6th year of marriage. Included is a description of the date and any money or gift cards needed to complete the date. Lots of planning and drawing and thought went into the gift and I believed my gift was supreme. And it is. Except I underestimated how well Matt can celebrate 5 years. I was spoiled yesterday, friends! Spoiled! I didn’t know what to do with myself.
Since it was a Friday, we both had to work. School is out, but we both have extended days after the kids get out of school- he had a training and I was holding interviews. After my last interview, there was a delivery for me: flowers. Not just normal flowers, but my favorite flowers- daisies. AND not just normal daisies, but white and purple daisies- our wedding colors. Yes, he is that good. I’ll spare you from the message he sent with the flowers. Just know it was equally as cute.
Then around lunch time, I get a text from him saying he will take care of dinner, so when I get home not to do a thing in the kitchen! YESSSS! I love not having to cook or think about what we will be eating, so I was thrilled.
When I got home, there was a card and gift bag waiting for me on the kitchen table. A lovely card and inside the bag, a kitchen cabinet handle. I know, I know, you are thinking that a cabinet handle isn’t romantic- and why only one? I knew it meant that he was going to go shopping with me to buy kitchen cabinet handles! We are finally going to move forward on getting our kitchen re-done! YAY! Sounds crazy, but I was super excited about the handle.
Now all I had to do was sit back and relax until the hubs came home to cook the dinner! Once he got there, he had another surprise- a second gift bag. WHAT?! I thought I already got all my presents for the evening. But he insisted, so how could I resist another gift? So I opened it right away. Matt picked out three pairs of diamond studs for me- small, medium, and large. I had been wanting some super sparkly studs since the pairs I have are just from Wal-Mart. I know, classy. Then he got to work on grilling our dinner: lemon pepper salmon, garlic roasted red potatoes, asparagus, and corn on the cob. Delish. And some of our favorite wine, Pinot Grigio. And it was delicious.
Needless to say, Matt went big. It was a wonderful, rainy evening of celebration at home with my man. Happy anniversary- here’s to the start of another year together!
