The front door says a lot about a home. It’s like a warning to what will be seen on the inside. It preps me for the decorations, style, and personal taste of what I am about to see. Honestly, it helps me to NOT say what first pops into my head when I see the inside. If I see a front door with a wreath like below, I know I need to keep my mouth shut about the inside decorations and try not to laugh.
My house by no means is super modern, sleek, and fabulous. But some styles just make me laugh. I just can’t help it. It would be great to have a wreath like one of these:
Too bad this idea popped into my head only last night. I wanted a wreath, and I wanted it today. But it was rainy and cold and I was already in my sweat pants, so forget about the craft store. Time to put together something with the things I already have in my craft room. Considering what I had to start with, I think it turned out pretty good. Don’t remember that wreath that was on the door when we bought it?! I do. Yikes. It was pretty bad. (Unless you are the previous owner, and in that case, it was classy.) As a reminder, here is what we were graciously left with:
Once all the flowers and fluffy twine stuff was taken off, it wasn’t too bad. But that was a job in and of itself. There was so much hot-glue on that thing I didn’t know what to do with it all! That also means that she probably made it herself- bought the materials, glued it together with such care….. which is what I did too, only 20 years later. I am sure I will leave my masterpiece with the next owners down the road and she will blog about me and my poor taste.
I wrapped it in some fabric that I had left over from another sewing project a few years ago.
Even though I have been knocking all things floral, I ended up using fabric that has some flowers on it AND adding my own flowers I made out of fabric. I tried several flowers and ended up liking the most simple ones. I hung it on my front door with the same wreath-hanger that she left too, so my total price for this project was $0! My kind of project.
